We are looking for a Senior Handbook Editor with strong editorial experience to join the Cross-Cutting Policy Department, in the Handbook Team.
The Handbook Team is responsible for the maintenance and development of the FCA Handbook of rules and guidance.
This high-impact work, ensures UK financial services markets have clear rules and guidance setting out our expectations of over 60,000 firms regulated by the FCA and key individuals that run them.
The Handbook Team works closely with colleagues across the FCA, including our General Counsel's Division (GCD) and Policy, as well as a range of external stakeholders.
The team will shortly lead work to redesign the Handbook, drawing on the latest technology to make it more accessible, navigable and clear for its users.
This role is an exciting opportunity to lead on how to make rule changes to the FCA Handbook, and to improve Handbook content in terms of digital functionality and usability.
The Senior Handbook Editor is responsible for driving forward the monthly Board Handbook changes, and manages regular publications from within the Team. This role provides the chance to work with colleagues from across the FCA including GCD, Policy and International.
An editorial background is vital, and we are ideally looking for someone with experience of working with policy leads and in-house lawyers.
The successful candidate will need to demonstrate excellent editorial skills, strong stakeholder management experience and the ability to manage multiple issues concurrently.
- Providing leadership on Handbook-related projects, bringing to bear editorial, analytical, strategic, people and project management skills
- Taking ownership for key deliverables, ensuring outputs are delivered on time and to a high standard
- Leading internal training on policy processes and how to make changes to the FCA Handbook
- Providing editorial training and support to more junior members of staff within the Team
- Leading and managing the relationship with a third-party website supplier

- Proven experience of editing legal documents
- Proven experience of drafting and editing regular publications, such as corporate documents or public papers
- Proven experience of working within regulatory frameworks and being able to apply policy-making processes
- Experience of leading and delivering multiple complex initiatives within an editorial role, and the ability to navigate all levels of governance
- A strong understanding of the FCA Handbook, how we maintain it and its role in our regulatory framework
- Knowledge and experience of working with multiple complex policy issues
- The ability to communicate persuasively, succinctly and credibly, including with regard to complex issues, verbally and in writing
- A proven ability to work effectively as part of a team to achieve shared goals and to support and assist others
- Ability to develop strong working relationships and liaise assertively with internal and external stakeholders at all levels
- Strong time-management skills, with an ability to undertake multiple tasks under pressure and within tight deadlines
- Web design skills
- An understanding of digital strategies and how to work with third-party contractors to deliver an effective website

- The salary range will be approximately 46,000 to 60,000 GBP plus a competitive benefits package and non-contributory pension
